Unwanted hair removal has been a desired service of women and men for thousands of years.
The reaction for every person to the actual service is going to be a little differant. In summary the pain of having hair pulled out is relative to the area being treated, the product being used and the technician doing the work.
Mr. Henry has been doing this work for a wide variety of women and men from differant lifestyles and differant parts of the country. He has personally experienced the service performed on all the areas to which he conducts the hair removal service for other people. He performs this service with care toward being as painless as can be, even to the point of using lidocain skin numbing products to help dull the sensation.
Removing unwanted hair is a desire that people have been doing since earliest times in recorded history.
Personal hygiene has always been a reason for unwanted hair removal in those areas where daily cleanliness is of utmost importance. Having no hair there makes cleanup easy and effective. Having no hair there reduces the odour of daily and monthly bodily functions.
Personal appearance is an important reason for many people to remove unwanted hair. Having clean smooth skin is most attractive to the on-looker as well as the person that wears it. Many people would not go to public beaches and other such places where clothing coverage is minimal unless they feel presentable and comfortable.
Many people like the feel of certain fabrics on clean smooth hair-free skin.
It is known that during intimacy smooth hair-free skin is pleasurable.
The various methods of hair removal include shaving-(using a razor blade, electric shaver or electric clippers/trimmers), tweezing, cream depilatories, mechanical epilators that either pull the hair out a few at a time or rub the hair off with abrasives, laser light that attempts to damage the root so as to discourage regrowth, electrolysis that attempts to kill the root via electrocution, and waxing or sugaring which attempts to pull the hair out by means of a substance which sticks to the hair, and threading, which is a method developed in India thousands of years ago, uses twisted strands of thread to grab and remove hair.
Mr. Henry is skilled in the use of waxing, tweezing, and electric clippers/trimmers.
There are positive and negative things to be said for each method of unwanted hair removal. The following are comments on the services that Mr. Henry performs.
Electric clippers/trimmers:
+ Not painful to the client.
+ The time it takes to do the service is short and therefore least costly.
- The results leave a very short ‘stubble’ that is detectable.
- The regrowth is 100% of the hair coming back.
- Regrowth starts immediately.
Tweezers/tweezing
+ Effective way of selecting and removing individual hairs.
+ Tool is low cost and most households have it.
+ Lowest level of irritation to the skin.
- Tweezing one hair at a time is the slowest way to remove a lot of hair.
- Persons maintaining their own eyebrows will have a hard time seeing what they’re doing if eyeglasses are needed to see.
- Often the cheap tools do not work well.
Waxing: Hard Wax, honey wax and cream wax
+ Wax adheres to the hair for removal of large numbers of hairs at one time.
+ Wax is designed to not adhere to the skin
+ Wax is used at warmer-than-skin temperatures. The warm temperatures help open the hair follicle so the hair is easier to remove.
+ 50% to 90% of hair pulled doesn’t come back. When performed on a regularly scheduled basis the hair than grows back is greatly reduced in numbers, lighter in color, the root of the hair is not anchored in as strong so removal is much easier. After repeated treatments the perceived pain is greatly reduced.
+ Hard waxes and Honey waxes adhere to the course wiry hair that other products can not stick to.
+ Hard waxes work well in areas difficult to access by any other method; like: ear hair, nose hair, bikini area hair.
+ Speed of waxing service is second fastest after shaving.
+ Cream waxes are designed to provide the skin with increased protection through the use of essential oils and other topical products like Aloe Vera and Zinc Oxide. These protect the skin from various stresses and trauma.
+ Numbing agent used. A topical potion of Lidocain is available to de-sensitize the area to be treated.
+ Appointments recur every 4 to 6 weeks on average for most people.
- Removing hair by pulling it out is painful. Some areas are less painful than other areas. Repeated waxing conditions the skin to be not as sensitive.
- Some people experience redness of skin, some areas will get more red than other areas.
- Some people experience bumping of treated areas. However the bumping lasts a short time and occurs only on the first treatment for most people.
- Sometimes the skin follicle may have a small spot of blood appear after the hair is removed. This condition may happen in the first two or three visits. It is sparse; it is limited to about 1 in 100 hairs pulled that might have blood appear. The condition appears to happen to actively growing hair roots, cleans up immediately, and does not leave the skin damaged or sore. This possibly leaves the root unable to produce another hair. But for the client, the fewer hairs growing back the better.
Length of hair prior to waxing:
Hair to be waxed needs to be at least ¼ inch long. That is usually about two weeks of growth. Shorter hair is able to be pulled but not all kinds of short hair and not every time. The type of wax used makes a big difference in the hair being pulled or being missed.
Often times the wax used will pull most of the hairs but not all of the hairs. This is usually because some hair is deeper rooted, or growing at an angle opposite the other hair in that area, or is lying underneath other hair and fails to get wax on it. Or the wax used is not the type that adheres well to those hairs.
Another reason hair does not get pulled is that the hair is visible but not accessible. In other words the hair has emerged from the follicle but is lying underneath the top layer of skin known as the epidermis/stratum corneum. The transparent layer of keratin rich cells lay atop the newly grown hair emerging from the follicle. A good quality defoliant and applicator is useful to scrub away or exfoliate the dead skin cells. This practice performed at home helps to expose the hairs trapped beneath the skin.
A prudent waxing client will have the defoliating products at home and exfoliate regularly while bathing.
Exfoliating helps to prevent ingrown hairs and consequent irritation and infection.
Common astringent is another important product to use regularly on skin that has had hair removed. This tightens and tones the skin/pores. It controls and eliminates bacteria and other micro-organisms.
